What are some good fundraising tips?
o Explain to your supporters why you’ve committed to doing the #YOURCAKE Challenge to support young people with high care needs. If you have a story – share it!
o Make sure you upload a profile photo to your page. It makes your page more authentic and helps people feel more connected to you and the #YOURCAKE Challenge.
o Be the first to donate to your page. This shows your commitment and is setting the benchmark for family and friends who come to your page to make a donation.
o Share your page and ask people to support you via email and social media!
o Make sure you contact all your potential supporters and tell them about your #YOURCAKE Challenge. In addition to close friends and family, don’t forget to contact any other groups you may have connections with including current and former colleagues, old school and university friends and members of sporting clubs and community groups.
o Thank your donors! Let your supporters know that their donation has been noticed and appreciated.
o Don’t set your target too low! You may be surprised by how deep your supporters will dig to help you get across the line to reach your goal. If you’re close to reaching your target or have achieved it – increase it!
o Don’t be afraid to ask more than once, many of us mean to donate but sometimes life gets in the way and we forget. It usually takes more than one round of asking to nudge everyone into action, so don’t feel embarrassed about asking people again. You’re doing a great thing, of course your friends and family want to support you!
o Don’t stop fundraising when the #YOURCAKE Challenge finishes. A surprising number of donations are received after the event has finished, so don’t’ stop asking! Update your fundraising page and social media with some great photos of your #YOURCAKE creation and thank all your supporters!
Do I have to wait until the #YOURCAKE Challenge period to start fundraising?
Definitely not! You’re encouraged to engage with your family and friends to start fundraising as soon as you register.
Can I create a School, Workplace or Community Group Team?
o You sure can! Team pages are a great way to fundraise with other people and show your collective effort. Once you have created your individual fundraising page, complete the following:
§ Click on View icon above your profile photo
§ Then click on the link called ‘create a team’
§ Next up, give your team a name
§ Provide the story behind your reason to fundraise together and add a cover photo
§ Set the team’s fundraising target
§ Click ‘Save’ and now your team page is ready!
Where does the donations go?
Donations allows Youngcare’s small, but passionate, team to continue to act as the great connector between developers, investors, government, health sector workers, the general public and young people with high physical support needs and their families in order to provide best practice support and sustainable outcomes. We achieve this through Youngcare Housing, Youngcare Connect, Youngcare Grants, Government relations, community engagement, and wider advocacy activities such as events, media and public relations. Your generosity keeps our boots on the ground so that we can ensure every young person with high physical support needs can live with freedom, choice and dignity.
